Well the 2016 season ended pretty good!
With the TDRA season ender I knocked down my first podium finish in the Beast. Got 1st place in the race and ended up in 3rd for the season!

Then went to run the TORRA season ender in Critter and pulled out another 1st place win!

So all in all this season turned out very good!

TDRA wrapped up it's 2016 season in great form with the Lonestar 200.  The 200 mile race on TDRA's seasoned Notrees Track offered a challenge for everyone.  Deep rain ruts kept everyone on their toes, and fast straightaways made sure everyone left with a smile on their face. All of TDRA's tracks are on private land which ensures peace of mind for racers, knowing that the track is completely closed off to spectators that may be standing too close to the course, parked on the outsides of corners, or disrupting course markings.  Speaking of course markings, this season TDRA put out around 2000 markers!  It takes a lot of manpower to set up and take down a race course and TDRA is fortunate to have some amazing volunteers.
The Lonestar 200 offered racers a bit of a break with a 10 am start and a 7.5 hour time limit.  Rain clouds loomed in the distance as the race got underway, but fortunately a light sprinkle was all that came down which made for some awesome track conditions!  The Unlimited class battle heated up right away with 77-year-old Carty Beal attempting to chase down a much younger Brandon Gully.  A flat tire during the first lap put the Beal's (God Is Awesome Racing) down 15 minutes giving the Gully's plenty of breathing room.  That is until God Is Awesome Racing put in a few of it's hot shoe drivers Carl Beal and Kevin Allen.  After making up almost 15 minutes, the Gully Brothers Team still manage to finish ahead of the Beal Team but by a margin of 32 seconds! Situations like these are exactly why TDRA has invested heavily in the most modern and accurate timing system used in desert racing. This is the very same system used by SCORE and BITD.

A real Cinderella story took place in the Aircooled class as Billy Dobbs and Haskell Wright battled it out for first place.  Billy took the win, his first win ever.  Anyone who races TDRA knows Billy and his never give up attitude. He has been working hard for five years to get this win and it is well deserved, congrats Billy!  John Mitchell rounded out the top three with his 5U Car.  Another great story that came out of the Aircooled class involved a few racers.  Dale Hodges ran into some issues on the track and ended up with a bent coilover shock.  He was able to limp the car back to the pits but didn't have a shaft to fix the coilover. Dennis Sonnenberg happened to have a spare 2" emulsion shock which luckily was the same size shaft.  Haskell Wright, another Aircooled racer and longtime TDRA member, loaned out his race trailer (a mobile fab shop) to help get the coilover rebuilt.  This sort of sportsmanship among competitors is what TDRA is all about!

Ok, this is Critter, it was the former Hooters desert race team car. I was able to do some trading to get it because of a bad motor and trans.

Started the race almost 3 hours late because of electrical issues with the car. We were the only air cooled that was able to complete 1 of the 2 laps and just missed the cut off time to head out for the 2nd lap. Course was 95 miles long. They awarded us 1st place.
