Hi all, I've been jonesin' for a VW for a few years now, and had a deal made for a '72 Bay Camper until the owner backed out on me. So what did I do? I bought the first VW related vehicle I could find within my budget Very Happy . I just picked up a Sand Rail basket case Monday. I have looked through a few threads here and haven't seen much on buggies, so I just thought I would put out a feeler to see if y'all are ok with me posting my rail stuff here.

Thanks, glad to be here. I didn't think there was that big of a Volkswagen culture here in TX until I found this place. I have always wanted to go to a VW swapmeet or show, hopefully I can find one nearby with this forum.

Hello Brad,

Welcome aboard, looks like a nice basket case indeed. I see soem type 4 parts in that collection as well. Your also welcome to post about rails here. As 72VWbug said, there are a couple of rail owners on here. Hasn't been much going on about them... But it's a capital idea. Idea

And long over due.

Enjoy

Oh yea, my daughter is after me to build a rail. Shocked

Welcome to the site and the "Wonderful World of VWs". A friend of mine is working on a sand rail. Just about finished, he just needs to get a few engine problems figured out. Anyhow, nice lookin' project, look forward to updates. Welcome banana

Ha ha, Bob I think it might take more than a few of those chug: I really appreciate the welcomes, this seems to be a pretty friendly place.

I really don't know where to begin on the rail, I want to get it stripped and primered pretty quick before the rust becomes an issue. The brakes will be a top priority as well. I am not looking to have it on the road any time soon, the most important thing to me is having everything safe and put together right. If I can find a good used motor pretty quick it might be cruisin before the end of the summer.

Is there a market for those engine cases and heads? I thought about putting them in the classifieds but I wasn't sure if they would be worth anything.

Thanks,
Brad

Vp, where was that pic of the rail taken? I like it, but I don't think those paddle tires would ride real smooth on the street!
