LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A frail but smiling Dennis Hopper was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, belying reports that the "Easy Rider" actor was on his deathbed. Hopper, 73, has advanced prostate cancer and was said in court documents this week to have dropped to about 100 pounds (45 kg) in weight and to be too weak to continue chemotherapy.

| LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dennis Hopper has died after a battle with prostate cancer. The actor may be best known for his role in "Easy Rider," which he also co-wrote and directed. He also had a reputation for throwing tantrums and abusing alcohol and drugs, and was married five times. A family friend says Hopper died today at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice. He was 74.
