| I am back from IRAQ and wanting to start a complete rebuild on a rail buggy that I bought for my boys (8 & 11) and me. I have a complete buggy (1600 swingarm-68 or 69) was supposedly running when I bought it(the engine is free and will turn over) but I cant get it to fire- brother-in law is a gear head and couldnt either---so me and the boys are going to attempt the total rebuild---It has been sitting now for about 4-5 yrs. What I would like is advice-- as to refrence material---web sites--parts --places to do business with and especially the ones to stay away from----as well as advice about what to do and suggestions .
Its a family project---with a low budget--- but what we want is somthing that is a daily (street legal ) driver/toy ---need decent mpg---but want to do --" the Dukes of Hazzard "---stuff---wheelies--race-- with it----with that said- I dont have a big budget.
I know I want to ; 1. rebuild the engine and (swingarm) tranny ( hot but not stupid--150 -200 hp ? )**advice needed** Hope to do this myself ** 2. modify the cage 3. rebuild brake sytem and to incorperate sand brakes 4. replace fuel cell, oil cooler, fan housing, foot pedals, front end??-- 5. replace suspension 6. redo the electical system 7. install new speedo & tach and lights 8. plan on "Rhino lining " the cage
As I said ANY and ALL suggestions, advice, recomendations ,critisisms **AND** donations are wanted, as long as it will help me to rebuild this project and help me to reconnect with my boys.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

| sounds cool! All I can say is.... prepare to be very frustrated! haha there is a parts place I use at northwest Highway and plano road. Its called "foreign car parts" they have "vw guru" there who is friendly and very helpful
There is a website called chirco performance or something along those lines. They have a big selection of vw parts and offroad stuff as well

| You need a Bentley manual, most important book to have for vw's.
Check the dist cap, rotor, points for fire, condenser may be dead. If you do a rebuild, keep it stock to do your "low budget" build. Get it running and street legal so the kids can enjoy it, they will get tired of it if your going to do all that you listed before they can ride in it. Just make enough mods to make it safe.
Buy a rail kit from Doug at Qualitat and build another one like you want while you have the other to play with.
