Hi, my name is Faith and I am new to volkswagons. I just got my first 69 bug. I don't know anything about them, but I have loved them since I was little. I do have a question, where is the best place to get my oil changed and what kind of oil do I use? I've never changed my own oil, so I need all the advice I can get.

I look forward to meeting all of you someday.

TIA,

Faith

Hello Faith, welcome to the site.

Where to get your oil changed would depend on your location. I'm not a fan of the quick change lubes. Are you in the DFW area?

Type of oil, you will get a mix of answers on that one. I prefer Castrol 20W50 and I change it every 2K miles.

Welcome to the site Faith. Congrats on the purchase of your bug. As far as changing your oil its actually very simple to do on a bug but if you still arent comfortable with it then most import auto shops will be willing to do it. What area you located in and someone will probably know of one.

Wow! Now that work has let up and the holidays are over I can actually start having fun in my cute little bug.... I have been putting lots of hours in at work and now I have plenty of money and more to come with my income tax refund. So for right now I have a few questions... First do ya'll have a meeting or some type of get together? Second, Does anyone know where I can have my new seat covers i got for christmas installed. And third but not least, I want to paint my car. I am a girl and I do like pink. So does anyone have any recomendations on where to go? My dad just said take that little car to maaco but I don't know what Im doing. Is that A good place or do ya'll know of a better one? I am just so ready to get it where I want it and just drive it EVERYWHERE.

Well thats all for now. I will be back for more information. And all the help is greatly appreciated.

Are you wanting to replace the foam in the seats also?

Painting, you have time to worry about that. Wait till it starts warming up again. Wink

I just got new covers for my seats. I don't know what the pads are. Do I need them?

So Febuary 19 is the next meeting? If so then I am gonna try and make it. I would like to meet some people who know what they are doing and who could mabey help me out along the way.

As for the paint, I was thinking right around March when I get my refund back. I can't wait!

That depends on if the old foam is beat down or not.

Correct on February 19th. Hope to see you then.
I'll warn you that my bus isn't running yet so I'm driving my rice burner.

Have you picked a color yet?

Greetings 69vdubgirl,

The pads are under the covers .They are the support &
they sit on top of the springs. If the pads are not good then the new seat
covers will not last long nor fit well. The link below is for the factory style
pads (More $$$ but correct for restorations).

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg_new/interior/seat_pads_bug.cfm

Bellow is a link for the foam style pad (may need to search for your year bug)

http://www.evwparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=43-1882&Category_Code=BugSportSeatPadding

You will also want some cloth or burlap to cover the springs before your put
the pad on. The other tool you may need (depending on which type of seat covers
you bought) would be hog ring pliers & some hog rings.

Some poor photos of some westy camper seats I did
in Oct. for a friend (sorry photos from phone)
Click photos for larger view

I hope this helps, be Well
