Hello to all. Well, I have been invited to post so here it is. I guess I'm new to the club, although I have driven many VWs before. These are:
- 1972 Bus
- 1972 Type III
- 1981 VW Rabbit (wow, was it fast!)
- 1971 Beetle
Found our current Beetle (see Avatar) in Sayre, OK behind a guy's welding shop. It hadn't been running/tagged since 1991. I offered to "take it off his hands" and he agreed for only $50.00.
So, we've had the engine rebuilt (Thanks, Billy!) and cleaned up. It had about 6" of rats nest and cr*p, so we ripped everything out, began replacing stuff and now my 17 year old drives it to school.
I'm focusing on body work and minor things I can work on on the weekends.
While I'm at it, I'm looking for the following items. I'd buy new, but if I can get used for cheaper that would be great...
1. Door trim (left side)
2. Left & right rear view mirror
3. Front hood trim
4. Front and rear bumper brackets
5. Front and rear bumpers
6. Gear shift boot
7. 1971 Beetle Steering wheel
8. Original style front seat belts
9. Running boards

Hola! Welcome to the group

Its funny, we have a number of people who are from or near McKinney, but I see zero to no bugs driving around town. We should change that !

We drive it around, just not very much - mostly a in-town car. My daughter drives it to school. Otherwise it stays in the driveway (she has to pay for her own gas).
I'm going to start replacing the generator this evening, so it should be out and about more here in a few days.
