I went out and saw Doug at his vw shop in Grand Prairie to get the wheel cylinders for my 58 bug. He sold me this one for the front:

After some examination I found that I have this one on the backing plate originally:

The first one is about 16 bucks and the second one is about 70.

The $16 one is referred to as Brazilian and the $70 one is referred to as German.

Did I get the wrong one or is this some sort of cheaper alternative...... my guess is I got the wrong one but I figured I would ask....

hmmmm scratch

figures I probably need the more expensive one! affraid banghead

From what I have seen you have an early model '58 maybe, with '57 brake parts???

There are cheaper wheel cylinders, I myself enjoy the feel of good brakes. I like German when I can get it and or afford it, Brazilian when I can't. Stay away from the Chinese.
