A low-flying pelican blamed for driving a Bugatti Veyron into lagoon

Post  Terry on Sat 14 Nov 2009, 7:30 am

Bad news for owners of the Bugatti Veyron, one of the world's most expensive and fastest cars. They don't float.

A Lufkin, Texas, man found out the hard way this week when he accidentally drove his $2-million sports car into a saltwater lagoon near Galveston, reports Chris Paschenko of the Galveston County Daily News. Our favorite part: the driver said he was distracted by "a low-flying pelican."

When the Veyron went in the water, the motor continued to run for about 15 minutes before finally giving out. That's $2 million of ruggedness right there. Maybe the salt water worked its corrosive magic by then.

The Daily News wrote:

The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.

We're just sure the guy, who wouldn't give his name to the reporter, wasn't driving too fast in a car capable of more than 200 miles per hour. Banish the thought.

Right, it will take a half mill to fix that one.
